Waitlist F.A.Q.
I’m number _____ on a waitlist. What are my chances of getting in?
I have no idea. Whether you get in is up to whoever decides to drop the class, or if they decide to add more seats to it. My guess is as good as yours. The general rule is that for small classes, top three spots have a pretty good chance. For classes over 100, anyone in the top 10, probably has a good chance.
I’m waitlisted / a class I want is closed. What can I do?
You can e-mail the professor. Express interest in the class/explain why you want to be in it. Avoid phrases like “This is the only section that works with my schedule.” Instead, explain why this class, or this professor is special or unique to you. Always end your message by emphasizing that you know they are busy, and that even if there’s nothing they can do, you appreciate that they took the time to read your message….or some variation on that. Be humble, and be polite. Also include your name and P.I.D….obviously
I already e-mailed the professor. What else can I do?
Sit in on the class next semester. People who sit in for the first few times a class meets are likely to get enrolled.
If you really really want to be in a class, and you’re willing to exhaust all options, then it’s very likely that you will eventually get it. Just dont give up!
